$99,000 House

As the name of this product suggests, the $99,000 House is one of the more affordable solutions by Adam Kalkin. Just like his other products, this prefab is constructed out of recycled shipping containers and this means that any house that is based on this product is certainly going to boast unique properties.

However, in contrast to several of Kalkin's other products, the $99,000 house does not possess an exterior constructed of shipping containers. Instead, Kalkin has implemented a prefabricated steel shell, with the shipping containers providing the internal space. Many people think that this has been a shrewd move by the company behind the product, as the steel exterior certainly looks very impressive and perhaps looks less like a building made in a factory than several other houses that only use the containers.

Will the whole project cost $99,000?

Perhaps one of the misconceptions leading into this project is that you can move into your new home by having just $99,000 in your bank account. Unfortunately, this is not exactly the case as you will still have to purchase land for the building and depending on the area you wish to live, the price of this can vary considerably.

Moreover, it's not just land which can prove a stumbling block, but there are other additional costs associated with the $99,000 house. For example, you are in complete charge of the preparation of the site, as well as the assembly of the structure. It has to be said that assembly of the building is not an easy task and the majority of customers will have to source a contractor to perform the job. Alternatively it's possible to request that the architectural firm do the work, although this unsurprisingly arrives at additional cost as well.

However, while the above may be disappointing for some people, it's also worth stating that the $99,000 House does include the delivery charge. Considering the fact that this can sometimes cost over $10,000, this is certainly a relief and crushes one of the big costs associated with prefabricated houses.

What is the design of the $99,000 house?

A lot of people are surprised to see that despite the low costs associated with the $99,000 house, it still manages to incorporate three floors. The first floor is comprised of a large kitchen and dining area, a bathroom, a pantry and a spacious living room. The second floor is merely for the master bedroom, with this being long and thing in shape. The same can be said of the guest bedroom on the top floor, although this is slightly smaller than the other room. The house also arrives with a garage, which boasts two large glass doors.

An overview on the $99,000 House

As you may expect, the name and type of the $99,000 House means that it has grabbed plenty of media attention. Even though some people may be disappointed to see that you will need to spend more than $99,000 to move into your new home, few people can doubt that the offering is exceptional value for money and it will be difficult to find a house as spacious as this for a similar price.
